Paint Touch Up Help Needed
« on: 05 April 2008, 21:57 »
Guys,

There were two 3mm marks on my rear bumper when i picked up the car so went to the stealers today and got  Touch-Up kit.

There are no instructions with it. I got a pot of paint and a pot of varnish. Once the paint has been applied, do i then compound it in then varnish, or varnish then compound?

Any help appreciated.

Clean the chipped area with a little thinners. Throw the supplied brush away (sure fire way to end up with a huge blob of paint standing proud of the original paintwork) Put a little of the supplied paint in the chip using the end of a cocktail stick. Allow to dry and keep putting paint in the chipped area until you are happy that the chip is nearly full and the paint is not standing proud of the original paint work.

You have a choice now, either finish with the supplied clear coat or finish with the paint and forget about the clear coat. A loot will depend on the colour match, if it is a good match I would forget the clear coat as this might change the final colour and if the match is not great try finishing with clear coat to improve the match.

Paint is easier to compound by hand than clear coat but what ever you do I would leave the repair to cure for a a few days maybe even a week or so before trying to compound.

Hope this helps
