New Car - New worries
« on: 05 April 2008, 19:28 »
Hi - just joined site.  Just bought my third golf gti - mk 5 this time!  37k 2005 on a 54 plate.  Problem is i seem to be getting a tapping noise from drivers side of engine.  I'm sure it wasn't there when I test drove - had it checked at garage and they said tensioners are prone to slipping but mine seem fine.  At first I thought it was waterpump but garage reckoned that wouldn't be the problem.  They didn't feel there was a problem.  How do your mk 5's sound?  quiet as mice or do you get some noise?

any ideas appreciated - cheers guys and gals!

by the way - what a great car - mine has some cosmetics that i'd like to tidy up - and a slow puncture i found today - but otherwise great!!!

Well I notice its quiter the higher grade of fuel you use.

Try the Super Unleaded type fuel next time your tanks empty.

that "tapping noise" is normal mate. Dont worry about it. Most of the members on here will tell you that.

It is probably the ONLY disappointment I have found on the MK5 GTI. My advice is either uprate your ICE, or get a non res Milltek

It might be normal but it's poor quality and out of sync in a supposedly high grade car.

"They all do that sir" doesn't make it right for a 25,000 pounds performance car to sound like an old Peugeot 405 minicab.

I couldn't eat a whole one.
