a sportline's a bit too much for a project unless can get a cheaop one (< 700 quid)  which is why if i were spending a couple K's i'd rather go the mk3 cabrio + vr6 route

No its coz u a typical mk3 owner and all u know bout ur engine is that its under the bonet  

Not icluding vr6 drivers in this for obv reasons
