Opps, one thing I should have mentioned, even though I doubt it will effect your premium much, there will usually be an admin charge of about £30 - £40, so it might be worth either waiting until you need to re-new anyway, or if you have other mod planned do them all at once so you only pay the admin fee once.

Ahhh, I see, well exterior mods I'm only doing the alloys and changing the lights / repeaters, not worth telling them about that considering they cost me bugger all anyway. Need to find some alloys before I get them to do anything as well lol!

What happens if I bought some aftermarket alloys and didn't tell my insurers? Couldn't I just say they were on the car when I bought it? Or should I tell them?

You should be okay. There's something in the Road Traffic Act along the lines of '... no clause by the insurer over the condition of the vehicle shall affect a third party's right to claim'. (Not quoting verbatim but you get the idea.)

ALL the police/courts are interested in is whether you have insurance in place to compensate someone else in the event you have an accident and it's your fault. Insurers are obliged to pay out even if you have broken a contractual term in the insurance contract - say for example you uprate the engine without telling them.

I'm NOT however recommending that you don't tell your insurer about mods. In the event you have a crash and they have to pay out to the innocent party, they can still reclaim the money from you afterwards, and getting insurance from anywhere may prove difficult.

We had a case of someone who was stopped for no insurance, the Police took the car and crushed it then when he came to court he was given fines and costs of £1000 and banned for six months, love it

all mods,ie; anything non standard to the car as when supplied from new and not factory spec has to be declared to the insurance company.Insurance companys will look for any excuse not to pay out on a claim. If your wheels, exhaust, suspension even k+n filters etc. is non standard then tell them. They, ( the insurance company) see mods as making your car more nickable or more prone to vandalism etc.etc.Read the small print of your policy, its there in black and white.
And whilst on the subject of non-insured drivers, my mate got done for having no insurance; ( fool) car towed away, nearly 170.00 release fee, 200.00 fine and 6 points.
In the local paper a guy with no insurance fined etc. exactly the same BUT
a eastern european person with no TAX and INSURANCE got no points and no fine!!They claimed they thought they was insured etc. yet another case of them and us .
RANT finished.

DAMN THE POLISH!!! (No offense to Polish people) but seriously, why do they get away with so much as opposed to us that have lived here all our lives?

Maybe next time my tax runs out and I get pulled, I'll just say:

"Sorry officer, thought it ran out next year...what ya gonna do when ya Polish eh?" *wink wink*

Have you people not seen the Polish registered cars for sale on Fleabay?

It's the pikey-est way of not getting pulled ever!
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Holiday cottages on the Isle of Wight for 2-10 people? PM me.

I can top all of those...

My mate was driving his car (that I had just sold to him), he had no Tax, no MOT, no insurance and only a provisional licence. He promptly gets pulled by the cops, and they get him in the car, have a massive go at him, take his car keys and tell him its getting impounded and he's going to court.

So he comes to me the next day panicking and tells me what happened, so to save any hefty impound fees, I tell him lets go to the station and sort it out. We drop by the police station and tell the desk cop what happened and to ask where the car was, but there was no record of my mate getting pulled over, and we we're both too stupid to remember the registration plate.

We left the station to go back to his to get the V5, and round the corner, where he gets pulled over, the car is still parked and locked at the roadside. I still had a spare key for it, so my mate jumps in it and shoots home, puts it in the garage and gets his licence two weeks later.

He hasn't ever heard anything about the incident since. Some police force we have eh?
