Buying a GTI 1.8T - Buying Advice

Hi,

I am looking to purchase a 1.8T and would like some buying advice, what goes wrong with these? what should I look for? How can i tell if the turbo is on its way out etc.

I am looking at one tonight so all advice is welcome.

Im just stressed and work and waiting for MartinB to call for a quote and I've got a mates 21st tonight, testing driving a MK5 GTi tomorrow so Im all excited and I just want to get out of this sh!te office !! ARRRRGGGHHH !!!!

if the car is an X reg 2001, im guessing it will be a 150bhp version? are these 20V? or?

everything before 2002 will be 150bhp and 20V as long as its the turbo version.

2002 on you could get 150 or 180bhp

Def the way to go m8, i got 1.8 turbo 20v, best car ive ever had.........  lush drive and the turbo and dumpvalve sound is great to listen to. just look out for the water pump being changed, as they are first thing to go! have fun looking.
