I guess we should all now await the new 230ps 'special release' (but definitely not ED30) Golf GTI.

My my you are cynical, but probably right

Any guesses on what the "special edition" may have if released?. Mine would be standard full leather and the decals removed  and that's it.

Either that or they will just uprate the standard GTI engine and charge another few hundred pounds on the car

My real guess is that there will be a gap to allow the dust to settle before any new 'special' is announced as I think VW got a shot in the arse over this 'limited' issue from some of the disgruntled owners.

This will be followed by a mildly tweaked 'standard' GTI  packing the ED30's 230ps engine but without the Rockinghams/Pescaras or body mods.

The 'Edition 30' logo will also be sanded off of the plaque by the glovebox!
EDITION 30.
I couldn't eat a whole one.

which is fair enough i guess :-0

surely some dealers will have had an announcement through though if they had finished producing them ?

They probably do what they did with the MK4. Released the Anni version with 180bhp in 2002 and then from then on in all standard 1.8T engines came with 180bhp as of 2002.

Volkswagen has created a special Pirelli edition of its Golf GTI.
In doing so it has revived a model created way back in 1983. Like that car the Golf GTI Pirelli features some unique Pirelli additions.

Sadly, not the iconic Pirelli ‘P’ wheels of the original, but instead five spoke alloys finished in the same titanium effect and Pirelli’s latest P-Zero tyres. They will be worked a bit harder than the tyres of the standard GTI too, as the Pirelli GTi features the same 226bhp 2.0-litre T-FSI engine as the GTi Edition 30, its output raised by 29bhp over the standard car. That allows the GTI Pirelli to accelerate to 62mph in 6.8 seconds or 6.6 seconds when fitted with the optional DSG double-clutch transmission.
Other changes to the Pirelli GTI include body colour painted front and rear bumpers and a rear Pirelli badge on the tailgate. Fortunately, three other colours – black, silver and blue – are available in addition to the ‘Sunflower’ hue in the pictures. Inside, the seats get new microfibre material inserts with tyre tread patterns embedded into them and yellow stitching. And where GTI lettering would usually be found, Pirelli branding is placed instead. A numbered plaque also features inside.
