Rear brake bias valve adjustment - help

Hi,

I have followed the how to here: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=27064.0

But on my car the bias valve is always going to be allowed to close as the bottom radius of the spring falls out of the bottom holder.

How much resistance should be in the bias valve?
The weight of the spring is closing the valve and the spring falls out of the bottom bolt.

I can only think the bottom of the spring should be held firmly, or my bias valve should have more resistance in it.

Let me know if you don't understand my ramblings.

60/70mm.  Coilovers.

I have looked at a new bias valve in GSF today and that self centred whereas mine remains in any position.

That'll be the problem then.

You've got quite a lot of work on your hands replacing that then.  A replacement is £30 something from GSF et al.

Purchased one from GSF, must have gone up in price.

Doesn't look that tricky,  the only problems I can imagine is if the brake lines are weak and shear on removal.
Any other tips?

Yeah, search on here for brake bleeding - you need to hold the valve open to bleed up the system.

Soak it in PlusGas for a couple of days before attacking it and have a good set of molegrips available to undo the unions.

Do it carefully and you should be fine, unless your brake pipes are on the way out anyway.

Could also use a brake pipe spanner for the unions, was always told they were safer than molegrips.

Of course they're safer...... on newish brakepipes, but they cannot rival the grip of the molegrips and will slip way before them.

Aye mole grips are the only way to get these buggers off if they've never been touched in the life of the car. Use a set that aren't curved though you don't ruin the union in the process.
