Looking for Edition 30
« on: 03 April 2008, 07:15 »
Hi Guys

New to this forum

Lookig for advice -just sold my Mk 4 Golf R32, after owning for 4 years - very sad  to let such a great car go but it was time for a change

Looking for an Edition 30, my budget is roughly £19k - should i be able to pick up a nice one for this money.  It will be nice to buy a car with no part ex and be able to bargain hard with the Stealers

My preference is Black or steel grey.
Any options  i should really make sure i have when looking for edition 30?

and as anyone else made the move from Mk4 R32 to Edition 30?
how do they compare performance wise?

I have the chance to purchase a Mk5 Golf Gti on 07 plate from local Stealers
with 3kmiles for £17500 - only options being 18inch Monze wheels - but feel the car doesnt stand out from the crowd - sorry dont meant to knock the Gti
it drove realy well.  Just im looking for something bit more limited, like my R32 was

any advice/help appreciated

cheers

Options wise, make sure it has a centre arm rest as it finishes the cabin off.
Bye Bye Edition 30

I would look for an example with Xenon's, DVD Sat Nav, MFSW/Highline computer and obviously the standard Ed 30 alloys - however you may not get these options within your overall budget.

Try Pistonheads Classified - here:

and as specific current examples, these:

Silver:

Nice 5 door GTI in red here:

And for a few more quid - GTI in white:

Black is best though

Good luck

I got mine for £19.3, Std spec, with the armrest, only thing I wish it had is Highline, I had Adaptive Bi-Xenons on my last car (MK2 Leon FR TDi) and to be honest I don't miss them, perhaps to do with the lighter evenings etc.

My 57 plate Ed 30 was originally a UK Dealer Supplied car (12.11.07)(Windrush in slough) wasn't quite 3 months old, and had less than 1000miles on the clock, Steel Grey Met, and as new, and I mean as new, I went over it with a fine tooth comb, and found nothing, HPI'd it and checked the VW Dealer Info on the car, and it is great.  I bought it from PH, and I am very happy, I went to collect the car from Harrow, and his dad had a V5 Bora as a run-a-bout, and a very large house, all confidence inspiring.

I have fitted Cruise since, £150 from the dealers.

Good luck on your search.

I swapped my modified (Milltek with sports cats, K&N Typhoon, Schrick cams and Revo map) Mk 4 R32 to a standard Edition 30.  There isn't really a lot in it if I'm honest, and it will probably be even less noticeable if your R32 was standard.  However, with the R32 I had instant power whatever the speed and gear but with the Ed30 I have to make sure that I'm doing the right speed for the gear.  Some roundabouts/corners I have to take in a gear lower than I would in the R32.  The R32 was more powerful all round, but get your speed and gear right in the ed30 and it will feel just as quick and the turbo makes it feel as if it's actually quicker.

The traction is a fairly noticeable issue for me rather than the power.  The R32 just stuck to the road whatever and you could really feel it gripping.  On occasions I have felt the Ed30 wanting to break away at the back end due to my spirited driving and I have had to get used to FWD again.  The 4WD and traction is what I miss most about the R32 (as well as the noise!) but I think I was spoilt with that really and whatever car I swapped it for had a hard job of satisfying me as much as the R32 did.

I've driven 2 MK4 R32's and now own an Edition 30.

The difference is night and day and unless you're a nostalgic antique collector you will never look back................unless you want to see the old R32 rapidly receding in your rear view mirror!
EDITION 30.
I couldn't eat a whole one.

If it was me I'd stretch it slightly and go for a brand new basic spec import- 08 Reg, 1st owner, 2 years full VW UK warranty

thanks for the info

ive looked again on autotrader and VW approved used websites, theres nice lookiing Red Edition 30 on 57 plate for £20k in Vw Dealers - but ideally im looking for Black or steel grey.

I think if i pushed my budget to £20k - i should be able to get a very nice 07 or 57 plate from a deale with low miles and with few extras r- especially with no part ex to worry about.

Im hoping most Dealers would knock atleast £1k off their advertised price.

should anyone know of any Edition 30 for sale at dealers for £20-21k - id appreciate if you would post details.

much appreciated
