Snapped Bolt help
« on: 01 April 2008, 17:42 »
Was fitting a new water flange that fits to the head and the bolt has snapped inside the head any ideas how the hell I'm going to get it out. Not sure why it snapped as only had the torque wrench set to specified 20nm.

Please help....

can you get molegrips on the end of the thread to turn it?
If not you could try a set of easy outs, but failing that your gonna have to dust off the old drill + tap and die set.
Cant think of another way off hand. soz

Tried mole grips but no gud and then made it so a flat head screwdriver would turn it and that snapped.... Yep am left with drilling I think problem is access is a bit tight and I aint used a tap and dies set before but looks like this could be the time.

do you mean the screw driver snapped or the bolt snapped more?

If you havnt used a tap and die set before you might want to take the head off and get a local engineiring firm to do it for you.
Can be very tricky if you drill it out on the p!ss.

Yep the bolt snapped more.

Been and got some more small drill bits. Is already at a bit of an angle. Going to drill a hole if I can and then try an extractor set and if that don't work I'll be well narked. Deffo didn't want to get the head off. Thats just more hassle. arrrghhhh

Today, problem is I already tried drilling and started going off centre so need to start again Might sand it down a bit so its flat and can start a fresh.
