poor mpg on 1.8t

im getting 35 miles for £10 and its gettin worse.. i think this might be the cause but if someone could help me find out how to confirm this, find which one it is( i think there are 2 lamda probes???) and cheapest place to replace it!!>>>

i think the lambda has a direct link to fuel consumption so if it's gone the car will use too much
what's performance like?

i think it'll be the one at the front just after the catalyst as the car says
probably the stealers of gsf (cheaper) to get one

cant feel ANY difference in performance, just in the petrol  is there a way of checking it?> ive cleared the code, going to wait ti see if it comes back again
btw where are the 2 sensors anyways?? ones in the cat? where is the other one?

My O2 sensor went and there was no lack in peformance, was just getting 15mpg. Took it to a garage who replaced it etc. Not to sure if there are two, I always thought there was just one. When this sensor goes it gets all confused as to how much air let in and causes the fuel to run much richer causing your MPG to be shocking. You should also have quite a strong petrol smell coming out your exhaust due to the rich running fuel. When I sat in traffic jams I could smell petrol from my exhaust when I was sitting in the car because I wasnt moving anywhere

My engine managment light also came on.

Would the lambda sensor or anything else also cause you to be able to smell fuel when the car is running?

I seem to have a problem that I can smell fuell, generally when just pulling off or when standing still.  Windows are closed, fan is on.

I think the mpg is down a bit, but hard to say for definate - the mpg readout seems right, but the guage seems to drop away faster than it used to (obviously the engine does not know its leaking fuel or whatever)!

If that makes any sense to anyone, a reply would be much appreciated!

i havent noticed any petrol smells at all... but worth changing for piece of mind i spose...
how much was it for replacement?

the lambda sensor really affects petrol when I had a dud one (2nd one before the cat) my baby was drinking juice like it was going out of fashion!

Hummmmmmmmmmm Cant really remember. Took it to the garage and I THINK (THINK) I paid about £130 for diagnostics, parts and labour for it. Im sure if you call your local garage they will give you a quote (dont bother taking it to VW unless you like bum sex).
