Thatcham Approved? Question
« on: 01 April 2008, 17:27 »
Evening Guys,

I brought my car around 10 months ago (Mk3 16v) And its got alarm and immboliser, i THINK its a sigma alarm but not 100% sure, now its insurance renewal time and alot of places wants to know what make and if its thatcham approved.

Ive got a feeling i know the answer but if it is a sigma is there anyway i can get the paperwork to say its approved??

Dan

well you can search for the exact immobiliser and alarm on the web

as for the classification, see thatcham to determine where yours falls

and good luck!

Yes, but how would i find the details on the alarm? The immboliser is a press in one, is this a factory extra?

Press on the original key?? Sounds strange but could be a factory imobiliser?

I have a Sigma alarm/immobiliser & the control button is seperate...

Best bet is to have a poke about under your dash (what I had to do for my insurance) & see if you can find the alarm.

most insurers require you to have the fitting cert for thatcham approval....but it is possible to get it re-certified at any alarm specialist

Re-certified? What would that entail, is it as easy as going to a fitter and seeing they can approve it?!

Where would the control unit be?? Im thinking there may be a serial number or at least a brand on it!! Im sure its sigma or something...

to re-certify you visit an approved fitter who checks the instalation and if its ok he gives you the ticket.. and the control unit could be fitted any where but behind the govebox or center console is normal

Just called a place and apparntly its not that easy.. As the alarm is linked to the certificate by a reference number or something.

Any other ideas?!

Any1 want to lend me it!?

if you take the car down to the local thatchcam place, and drive in, and ask them think you would be better off... think they might just fob you off on the phone cos its not a full fitting so they might not want the job of checking someone else' wiring...

noble tuned - and still not fast enough!
