I found that the eagle F1's do grip well but also found that they were not as stable at high speeds compared to the bridgestone pots re050, 070, and the PS2 michelins

also found that the F1's worked much better in wet conditions than dry.

i think bridgestone pot re070 or michellin ps2 are the tyre that keep coming in the top ten of most tests.
i have not seen any of the tests carried out with high speed stability as one of the categories.

I had ps2's on my old car and have to say they were excellent!! Currently got the dunlops and I havent really got any complaints, but they seem to get bad reviews on here... not sure why. They are excellent in the wet, and just as capable in the dry. Very sturdy at high speed and a good all rounder I would say. Done 10k miles and they still look like brand new!!

Which is quite good as the old motor only managed 5k on the ps2's

I can vouch for the Michi's.

Gone from Bridgestones on a standard GTI to Michelins on an ED30 (same suspension set up wheel size etc) and they feel much better. They are quieter, soak up the bumps better and so far are performng well in the wet (hasn't been dry much since I had it!).

I think the michi's PS2 and i heard somewhere about the exaltos 2 were very good tire.
only thing i found was that they did wear out alot quicker than other brands.

i have the exaltos 2, standard from vw, i dont like em. i dont feel like they grip on corners much, seams to end up understeering

IMHO, track testing doesn't represent real world road experience, so find a good tyre supplier/fitter and take their advice

Agree with you there ... and interestingly EVO did do a subjective road test in their tyre test last year on the Golf GTI

and the tyre that won this by quite some margin was ..... the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta

The bottom list is the overall score (all tests). The top list is the subjective road test (just one component)

The subjective test just rated how the tyres felt on the road. Not their performance. At least with the track tests you can get a figure for wet & dry braking distances. Look at the the Yokohamas. I have had a couple of sets on cars in the past (A510 on my MK II years ago brilliant tyres). But look at the wet braking distance of S.Drive and it was 41ft more than the best!  two and a half car lengths.
