Help-soundpack or after market!!!!!
« on: 01 April 2008, 10:40 »
Any guidance really would be appreciated on the following,

I have a ed30 with dvd sat nav and 10 speakers, I have been told by my dealer that you can't add the vw soundpack amp ???? Sure though you can and if so will possibly have that done, on a side note my system does sound as good as my mates golf with soundpack although I don't have an amp under the passenger seat, perhaps its located elsewhere??? :undecided:

Bottom line is, I don't want big expensive subs etc and I am actaully quite happy with the std sound system, just feel it could do with a tiny bit of a boost and as such was considering a small amp with integrated sub???

So, views on whether the soundpack is worth the no doubt £100's the stealer will charge or just go for a tiny integrated amp with sub by kenwood, 150watts and small enough to go under passenger seat for £200???

Please help :undecided:

I find the RNS510 fine.
I can barely turn it past half volume before it's too loud.
Especially if you adjust the Bass/Treble/Mid etc.

telboy,

I in the same boat mate. Im thinking about adding amp to my RCD500 and maybe change the front and back speakers to something a little better. Hoping to spend no more that £250 like but i've got a mate who has an car audio company so will have a chat with him.....

Im not happy with the standard setup. Its not all that, especially when you go above 50% volume. Bass sucks

Why don't you try talkaudio.co.uk

The guys on there have a wide range of experience of set-ups from mild to wild.

Or even our audio section on this forum (although it means venturing outside the MKV section  )

Would be interested to hear what they have to say, really not keen on taking off door cards etc as so far, touch wood, no bad rattles  :undecided:!!!!

Have heard that Kenwood do an integrated amp with 150w subwoofer (small enough to go under passenger seat) which although doesn't seem like a lot, might be enough to add that little bit of bass???

If you get chance, let me know what they say, many thanks Telboy

I have a 2005 GTI and got the Soundpak fitted as new. Found it only made marginal difference to sound quality and was not worth the money. Had to listen to my system side by side with demonstrater to convince myself there was any diference. Would have been far better going to car audio specialist aftermarket but did not want to affect waranty. With my previous car , Mark 4 GTI I had a Car Audio specialist fit an upgraded pair of Pioneer speakers to front for about £100 and this alone made obvious improvement . Problem with Mark 5  as far as I can tell is Vibration from door with loud bass and I feel this would be a problem with soundpak or after market

I agree with wlscullion.

If you do go for an aftermarket set-up it is well worth investing in some dynamat sound deadening pads to put behind the speakers. I covered the boot in dynamat when the boot install was done and it does help to reduce unwanted sound vibrations and keep the sound in the car, rather than everyone you pass listening in too :nerd:

Wouldn't a sub help some way in taking the bass away from the doors???? Not after a huge sub, just something to take some fo the bass :undecided:

Yes, you're quite right. Given the right settings on the amp and head-unit you can let the sub "take the strain" for the bass, but you need to be able to have the capability within your set-up to do it in the first place. Simply adding a sub will not reduce the bass in the door speakers.
