Rear Brakes.

The back brakes on my 1990 Digi are poor. I don't want to upgrade but need to know what is cheapest way to renew.
Would mk3 8v discs and calipers be a straight swap?

Hi there you say the back brakes are poor 1) the rear calipers are well known for seizing up or the pads in the caliper carrier could be seized. Another thing too try is jack up the car put a axle stand underneath crawl underneath with a can of wd40 find compensator valve see if it rocks back and fourth if not spray eith wd40 the get a little prybar and free it off. i was told the 020 rod box was supposed to be a strong box,how wrong are they 5 and counting on my mk2. Hopefully the quaiffe box will last.

Get some mk4 calipers on
Its a straight swap
And they won't seize as said above.
The performance won't really improve but they'll be a lot more reliable  :smiley:

mk4 conversion braided hoses by goodridge
Mk2 pads work
mk2 discs work

I have TT calipers on mine and it was a straight swap.

The handbrake cables in a different place too
But thats not really a problem

as in audi tt?
can bigger disks be fitted to the rear with mk4 callipers and carriers?

As in Audi TT  :smiley:

You can't fit bigger discs with just the calipers, but I'm not sure about with the carriers too.
tbh it wouldn't really be worth it as the front does the vast amount of the braking.
A 16v/g60 brake conversion at the front would really bring things to a halt much quicker :afro:

For the 16v? Just get all the bits from a 16v thats being broken.
I'm not sure what exactly you'll need
It's got bigger discs, and you need the calipers, and I think hubs maybe?
Hopefully someone else can clear that up  :smiley:
You'll need 15" wheels to accomodate the set up though I believe.
