Well, i topped up today and reset the counters and then set off for my journey from Stockton-on-Tees to York (Centre). I averaged 35.7MPG !!!!
Did 55miles and the computer was saying i had 345miles in the tank.

Thats the best i've ever had.

I did set my tyre pressures to 30 PSI all-round before i set off so maybe that helped....?

also one more thing to add, try turning off your air con system . That will drain some horsepower and also increase you mpg. stick it on econ rather then auto setting.

Best 37 mpg taking the Mrs away for the weekend to N Yorkshire.

Worst 14 mpg ( was that a M3 )

Weekly average anywhere between 27 - 30 mpg (depends how the traffic is on the M1.)

For the first 5 miles the MPG average is very poor (in the teens) while the engine gets warm. However, it gets warm a damn sight quicker than my GT TDI ever did.

I think mine is definately too low
Has anyone EVER taken their car to the dealer with an issue like this and found a successful fix?...on ANY car?

What are you actually basing your mpg on ?   Your first post seemed to assume your tank was completly empty each time you filled up, which is unlikely to be the case - did you check the receipt and what actual number of litres you put in ?

My journey to work displays around 18-20mpg for the whole journey, but over the whole week, with longer trips I avearge 27mpg

Your probably best waiting until you have a longer drive, at around 60mph on a dual c/w or motorway.  Reset you're trip comp. just before you start it.

If you don't get near 30mpg on that, then I'd look into it further.

You could check out the real mpg by taking notes of mileage & gallons used each time you fill up.

Hi guys, yep I was factoring in the amount used.

Anyway, I completed my normal journey today....this time switching off both A/C, the heated seats and the 1000watt subwoofer in the boot.  (Ahem nothing to do with me, it was there when I bought the car HONEST..., besides at my age you prefer the boot space rather than the bass boost)!!!

My trip MPG seems to have changed from 22.1 to 27.5....now.....that seems more like it

Journey as normal, start/stop.  You wouldnt think that the seats, the a/c and the MASSIVE speaker in the boot could effect fuel ecomony that much!  Anyway, i am sure its not the full picture...I will try the longer journeys and see how it progresses, I was just concerned about there being a fault, it appears its ok.

And on the same journey home....29.5MPG, with woofer, seats and A/C all off! what a difference! Am I going mad...? surely these gadgets cant draw that much power that cause a 7-8MPG difference??

Quite possible, aircon increases consumption by 10-15% depending on conditions, so there is up to 4.5mpg

I am chuffed to bits with the fuel consumption of my MK5 GTI, I am only on my first tank of fuel but have done about 240 miles and still have just under half a tank of juice left. Massive improvement from the 24-28 mpg's I was getting with my 1.8T Beetle Cab, only managed to get 230-250 miles from a tank on a good day.
I did a 100 mile trip yesterday and my average MPG was 37, admittedly I was sticking rigidly to speed limits but having the average MPG right in front of me helps, no such luxuries in the Beetle!

That's because it's been well looked after

Mark, I would regularly get 37+ out of it on the way to work (M42 50mph limit) and around 40!! on a run into Stratford and back

I know you don't buy a GTI for economy, but I think it's fantastic there's all that power, and economy if you want it

Still pleased? Have you done anything to her yet?

I'm on my first tank of fuel since picking it up last Monday and I'm hoping to get at least 300 (currently done 250 and the MFD says I have a good 120 left).

If I get 325-350 I'll be delighted.  I use Shells V-Power juice, which is recommended by most people on this forum.
