normal fuel consumption?
« on: 31 March 2008, 18:43 »
Hi all, I know its a dull subject but I just want to sanity check what MPG i seem to be getting.

I think its a little on the low side. If I am right, do I dare bring it to the attention of the dealer or will they just take it for a fun run and use up some more of the boost juice?

A typical journey for me is a 20 mile a day round trip into the City Centre and back, this is largely start stop in dull traffic, however theres a four mile motorway trip where hitting 70 mph is generally the norm.

I am getting somewhere about 250-270 from a tank full, thats 55 litres = 12.1 Gallons. So, if my arithmetic is correct I average around 22.3 MPG on my average journey....

TBH I was expecting nearer 30 for my kind of driving, does anyone think that there is anything wrong? I have a DSG and a milltek quad exhaust fitted but no remap or any other performance mod.

I didnt buy the car for economy, but just need to know if this is normal, hope you can help.

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

Yep on 99 Octane just now too, Tescos Finest

I think i will get out on a longish motorway journey to see how it improves....just seems low when I havent been booting it, just sticking to the 20,30, 40, 60,70 limits.

The stop start driving is what is killing it, remember USE THE TORQUE, when I have to drive in traffic I miss gears 1st to 2nd to 4th to 6th I find this helps, might be hard to do that if you have DSG however.

Loyal owner since 2005, done with remapping, I drive a Golf not a Veyron. (hypocrite)

My DIS 2 is currently indicating 32.8 Mpg, this morning in traffic on the M27, after a 90 mile drive from Somerset, DIS 1 was registering 36.7.

Last week the same journey, but at 5:30am, DIS showed less than 30, I have always got at least 350 from a tank of V power.

The car is an Ed 30, with 2700 miles on the clock.

I am happy with the economy, my FR TDi was only getting high 30's.  And Golfy is a far better place to be!
