My first attempt at anything web related and it's been a challenge so far!

Good start, but for ease of development and future-proofing, stick it on Joomla - you'll not look back.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Holiday cottages on the Isle of Wight for 2-10 people? PM me.

Done!, my spelling sucks!

This is the first version and I'm already working on jazzing up the pages a bit and hope to have the first article up soon.

www.joomla.org

It's an open source content management system - you (and other users) can write articles basically into a work-processor-type interface.  It also manages the look and feel and there are loads of templates out there which instantly change the look and feel and are totally customisable.

We were looking at systems costing £10k in work, but Joomla was at least as good as those and there are about 2000 add-in components available to extend it.

Any Linux hosting package will should have cPanel on it, which will install Joomla automatically when asked.  You then customise the install to make it look and feel how you want.  As it's free I can set up a vanilla install for you to have a play with on my webspace, if you want.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Yes. Note the "-" in the name! Besides they're a forum and club.
