Cam Belt - £250 ???

Arrhhhh

The place i'm buying my car from are doing the cam belt as part of the deal - but they are having issues sourcing a 'tool' from VW to carry this out.

They have offered me a £250 discount so i can get it done elsewhere or i can simply wait for this 'tool'.

What would you do?

PS - I have no idea what 'tool' they need.

hmm i'd wait as prices for cambelts vary greatly

the tool i believe is locking the belt into place  :undecided:

Is that seriously how much a cam belt change costs?  The belt itself is only £70.  I figured it was a 30 minute job for a mechanic.

Thanks - i'm not in a mega rush for the car - they just seem to be fannying about over this tool.

I didn't think £250 was enough to take it elsewhere - i guess i'll just have to wait  :cry:

not on a TDI; book VW time is 2.5 hours i think.  The TDI is apparently more complicated due to the high pressure injection system used which must be setup correctly otherwise you can gurantee to fook the engine!!

Also have you seen what you need to remove to get at it!! Its not a Clio or something where you can see the floor!!  :grin: :grin:

Not sure on the petrol models though

Id wait mate let them do it for you. The only tool i know of is to lock the pullies on the diesil not sure about a tool for petrol :sad:

and mine!!

i got £300 off the price as i couldn't find a receipt for it and it was due in a couple of thousand miles.  Then after i'd done the deal and put down a deposit he rang me to say it had been done but would still honour the price  :smiley:
