Golf Mk 2 GTI 16V. K tronic 1989

ok the problem is, when you start the car from cold the tickover system does not kick in , if you hold the revs for 30 to 45 secs it will then hold and run until the engine has warmed , we have fitted a new ICV control valve and tried three working ECU units, the garage says the voltage going to the ICV is low and should be higher to operate the valve and increase the tickover till it warms up , then decrease slowly to its regular running speed, any ideas as we are running out , cheers . photo's will go on when the car is fully finished .

Check all your earths.

Separate, clean and re-connect all of the connectors, including any around the back of the fuseboard in the car.

Have you had the spray patterns on the injectors, especially the cold-start injector.  If it's not spraying in to the manifold properly, with the right pattern it might not idle.

Next up is to check and replace the warm-up block on the K-Jet system.

^^^ As he said, warm up regulator. Its on the right hand side of the block, has two fuel lines going into it and is held on by two allen headed bolts, (7 mm iirc?).
