oil problem with my mk2

hello. i am having a problem with my mk2 GTI and need some help. yesterday i was driving along and all of a sudden the car almost died and i noticed there was blue smoke from the exhaust, at first i thought the head gasket had gone but the water level is ok and it is not over heading. i noticed that there was oil in the inlet manifold pipe to the air filter. now the oil pressure light is flashing and still smokes a bit but car running fine and the oil temp is ok. if anyone can help me with this problem that would be great thanks

sounds like it has been overfilled, and blown the oil back out the only route it has. The air inlet. Basically you need to drain some oil off and ensure that it is at the right level. Remember the oil filter/cooler carries about a litre in it, so account for that.

My old valver did it before i rebuilt it, was quite an interesting few seconds of zooooooom, bang!, pssst, (white smoke behind me covering the dual carriage way) cruising to a stop just off a roundabout. airbox was covered in the stuff.

Yeah, slicks prob hit the nail on the head.

Give your crankcase breather a really good clean. If you can, unbolt the actual metal unit and clean that too.

spot on thanks. the only thing is why is the oil pressure light flashing now that i have drained the oil to the max level

Maybe damaged the sensor with the over pressure???
The first sign of low oil pressure (which is what the light signifies) is usually noisy tappets.
If you don't have that I'd suspect the sensor, or have knocked the wire off the sensor while you've been working under there???

oooo that's reminded me, might be worth getting a new white oil sensor for the oil cooler body, the pressure has probably knackered the seal on it, so it will start pumping oil out the top of the sensor.

Only a few quid.
