std the S3 is just a little too subtle.
Inside though it feels so much nicer than the Golf.
A nice set of wheels would transform the S3
The HUGE advantage is being able to make the 300bhp remap useable
Its a lovely car

besides its a ED30 engine so it is in the right forum
otherwise it would just be boring 5 dr golfs in here

....Agreed - There's no doubt that the S3 is a quality car and great that bods like me could order a 'black' kit from Audi. I considered the Sportback when I was looking at the Mk5 GTI but the boot depth is too shallow for the odd occasion I need to carry a large monitor and all my on stage music gear.

You could easily change the S3's alloys if you don't like the factory ones, unless you've got a hang-up about never modding a car.

It's great that there are so many different cars for us all to choose from to suit our individual foibles.

I havent seen the boot of the sportback but if its anything like the R32... then its a pain in the shizzel having a boot with less depth. Its only when I looked at a friends boot i realised how much less space i have. Its impossible to get anything of odd dimensions in.

....The Mk5 R32 boot is barely 2" less deep than the GTI but, as you say R32UK, it's enough to make some loads very tricky.

It must be more than that... I was in a state of shock when I saw my mates boot! Much deeper... but like you said its those tricky loads :undecided:

I would debate if the S3 is any better than a GTi in the snow....I've had several 1.8T S3's and from experience yes these are excellent handling cars and quick off the mark but are pants in the snow.
Plus the S3 is really a pretendy 4X4 unlike the RS4 due to it being controlled by a haldex unit which also zapps a lot of BHP's..
My latest S3 was AMD remapped, Miltek, forge DV, large turbo pipe, K&N and produced 275BHP. I could not leave my friend in his standard 2 wheel drive Seat Leon CupraR.  :embarassed:

   I had a GTI Edition 30 before my new S3.Its like day and night in the snow,no grip at all with the GTI.And you are talking about the old S3 with 1,8t engine its not the same as the New S3 engine 2,0tfsi just like in Edition30.I can now plant the gas pedal to the floor in every corner without wheelspin and it just push the car away . The new S3 does 0-60 in 5,7sec,not to compare with the old engine you talk about
