running funny

just bought a mk2 8v yesterday car was running spot on until i got it home i checked under the oil cap and removed the oil breather had a look in it and put it back now it runs like its of a cylinder what have i done the car has been lying for a month or so not a wheel turned but like i say it was going fine when i took it for a test run :embarassed:

if its conking out when you put the clutch down, its most likely sucking in false air around the cam cover. You say you removed the oil breather?, is there a nice tight seal when you put it back ? if not try putting it back on tight or go to GSF and get a cam cover bung and replace it.

ive just noticed that the bung has a split in it could that be the problem if so

Yep will surely be that, think mine was 2 quid sommat from GSF, ran loads better afterwards.

IVE REPLACED THE BUNG BUT NO CHANGE IVE ALSO REPLACED THE
PLUGS STILL NOTHING WHEN U DRIVE IT AND U CHANGE GEAR IT SPLUTTERS
THEN WHEN U GIVE IT SOME IT GOES UP TO 3K REVS THEN ITS LIKE NORMAL AGAIN
THEN U GO UP A GEAR SPLUTTER SPLUTTER SPLUTTER.......

sounds like something else you had jaared in the process.
Look at some of the guides on rough idle or MKII maintance sections check afew things out like plugs to sensors, but sounds like a timing issue?

Do you mean that when you change down and allow the revs to drop it roars like a fatherless son then backs down and then settles to idle? Having gone thru all the tuning guides i`m at this point and am fairly confident its the isv giving up i`m afraid.

when starting off 1st gear it splutters between 1-21/2 thousand revs then when you put the foot down
it takes off change to 2nd same thing happens again
