Engine wont turn over... smoke!

Hi there, my 1st post lol...

My mk2 16v has been sat for a couple of weeks, when it wouldnt turn over the other day I assumed the battery was flat, so today we took it out and charged it up, then tried to start it again....

the engine wouldnt turn over, except when I stopped trying to start it  

Then white smoke poured out from here:



In particular this hole:


Anyone have any ideas? have i fried something already? (havent driven it yet!!! only bought it two weeks ago!)

Hmmmm, try removing the spark plugs and turning it over........what happens? Does it turn over now? Does anything come out of the spark plug hole?

sorted. garage changed the spark plugs and it started no probs. Got another problem now though!

sadly, when it comes to cars, i can kill anything mechanical, generally not on purpose either!  

Ive now owned three cars. All three have had  blow in the exhaust, the first two had REALLY dodgy brakes, they've all had dodgy electrics in some way, and now this one randomly misfires
