Fuel Consumption figs
« on: 22 March 2008, 19:17 »
Hi Guys, I'm considering picking up a GTI over the next week or so. I am looking at the DSG option but am interested to see what "actual" fuel consumption you guys get....I tend to disregard the brochure specification.

I do a fair amount of Motorway runs and a good mix of town driving, what would you say would be my avereage expectation?

Cheers all

Harry

Hi and welcome Harry

There are a few recent threads on fuel consumption knocking about, but not DSG specific. Mine is an ED30 DSG and remapped, so should give less MPG than a standard GTI DSG. I don't normally measure MPG. but when I went on my last motorway jaunt (264 miles) I filled up when I set off and then again when I arrived back. It cost £45 and the fuel was £1.13 a litre. So that works out at 30 mpg (but I wasn't hanging around!)

Having had my gti30 dsg for 2 and a half months, ive done 1600miles, 99.99% of it being my daily journeys of 10mile mixed journey to work, 3 mile urban for food, 10 mile mixed journey home. Its averaging 25.2 since i drove out of the dealers.

Although i took a wee drive through to grangemouth and back and each direction is roughly 26/30miles and mostly motorway, it done it at 31/32mpg (I was having a rather spirited drive mind you so probably wouldve been a bit better at *safer* speeds) ;)

Sorry Phil...thats not me..I'm a PS3/PC man myself...although I expect that this tag is pretty well worn by a few members of different online communities.

Cheers guys, It sounds mlike 22 around town and 30'ish on the motorway when driven "Properly" (at a more "pensionable" speed I guess we are looking at the brochure quoted MPG of mid thirties...so in all not too shabby).

I was looking (infact offered on) an Audi TT...but have just got fed up with the size of the thing...its sooooo tiny...Have always had a soft spot for a GTI anmd was v.impressed with the DSG ( just like I was with the Audi to be honest)

Appreciate your help guys.

Harry

I'm getting about 30mpg out of mine.  The 2nd memory of the trip computer actually says 29.9mpg at the moment.  Can't remember how many miles that covers.

Most of the miles I do is the daily commute to work.  I do 40 miles commute (20 each way).  A one way journey is made up of 2 miles of town traffic and the rest is A and B roads.  Depending on the traffic, I get between 29 to 33mpg.

Its the short trips, especially through town, that brings the mpg down.

running on 99 octane does seem to improve average mpg by at least 1-2 miles per gallon. Also makes the engine run alot better, more responsive.

Yep, car definitely runs better on 99 Octane.

If I drive normally, I will get 36mpg on the motorway, with 26-28mpg in town.

When driving "enthusiastically", it goes down to 20-22mpg.

That is with a manual GTI, done around 4500miles.

Enjoy the car.
