Okies...everyone look at this pic please...

Look at the valve thing to the left of the pipe that goes into the matrix...the water enters this valve hot but does not get through to the actual matrix..and the exit pipe - right one - is totaly empty so I think thats where my issue is..

so..what is this valve...what does it do..and where can i buy a replacement and what the hell am i asking for!?

cheers all!!

when it heats up from the water it should open and allow hot water to pass through. The valves knackered, either replace it or stick a straight through bit of pipe in it. Its just there to allow the engine to warm up quicker iirc?

Its called the Heater Matrix By-Pass valve. It was a recall part for Mk2's to stop the heater matrix blowing hot coolant on the passenger's legs.

You could try VW themselves or check a scrappy

well, it works with a t piece in so I now have to find a bypass valve...

So nice to finally have heat :)

i changed my matrix today, im putting A G60 into mine so the bay is empty at the moment, thinking about getting some copper pipes to replace these valves, is there anywhere to remove the valve inside and retain the plastic tubing?

will investigate abit more tomorrow althought getting the engine in takes priority.

get a mk3 matrix and then you dont need the bypass valves.

I don't think a semi will give the same results

ive put a mk3 one in mine, is it just a case of removing the valve and putting some pipe in its place?

I could be wrong but I thought that places like GSF stopped selling the MK2 matrix and just sold the stronger MK3 part instead ?
