Chipping a 8v digi..likely returns?

What kind of performance increases have people experienced from chipping their 8v gtis? Suffered any side effects?

i cant see any side effects from chipping as chipping is meant to make the car more drivable and iron out and flat spots etc......

But it must put more strain on the engine.maybe lowering lifespan?

waste of money in my opinion you are better off puttin a cam in it makes miles more difference

it would make the engine run better by allowing good fueling throughout the whole rev range!!!!

its like saying if you drive car hard the engine wont last
my engines on 201800 so thats proof it doesnt damage the engine by ragging it all the time.....well not when the oils warm and its over minimum, and its a good make of oil, and its changed regulary!

VERY WORTH WHILE ROAR !!!!

I've got a slightly modded 8v Mk2 - I'm assuming from the location of the post you'll have the same ....

I've got an extra 9 bhp from her which is nice, but the main thing is it's removed the famous "digi lag". I'm sure one of the more knowledgeable boys will correct me here, but the digifant system can take anything up to 3 secs to poll all the necessary sensors from the moment your accelerator pedal hits the floor, it's designed to increase fuel economy .... BORING !!!

If you have the money and are planning more mods then it's a must as the stock chip just can't cope with the fuelling etc with induction / cams / headwork / exhaust.

It'll be a very subtle improvement if used as a standalone mod, but money well spent. Plus if you want to rev your baby higher you'll need a chip to extend the rev range - just don't forget the bottom end or she'll got POP !!!

Interesting, I have a chip for a Digi 8v sat here - it's made by Superchips, a friend who crashed his GTi gave it me a couple of years ago, I just never got round to fitting it - I dunno if it is worth the effort without a rolling road to set the thing up afterwards?

You don't need a rolling road !!!!

The chip controls all of the varibles to increase the power - that's the point !!

On a modern fuel injection engine what can they tweak?? Only the static timing as the advance/retard is controlled by the ECU - the fueling is again controlled by the ECU - sure you can tweak it a bit, but you'll not see a massive increase. That's it on a stock engine, sure if you have carbs / cams / verniers / remappable ECu then this is when the rollers become necessary, but not just a chip.

Seriously if it's just sitting there do it as it's a 15 minute job!

The chip I have is by 'Superchips' are these a well known manufacturer?

superchip is a good manufacturer. these chips that you are fitting are generic chips, which are basicly remaped to get rid of flat spots that vw put in to ie keep noise levels down or give good mpg figures at certain points. if you put a cam exhaust filter big valve head etc on your car you will need a mapable chip. where they put your car on the rollers and set the chip up to suit the cars needs. if you have one kickin about put in on but, i would personaly spend my money on somert else you cant realy tell the difference.
