Tip off for a well cared for GTI
« on: 20 March 2008, 22:24 »
Hi

First post on here but have been watching the forum for a long time.

Anyway I took delivery of my ED30 today having part-ex'd my 05 GTI. If anyone is looking for a used GTI then I can thoroughly recommend my old one. The condition is immaculate - dealer commented that it is the best one he has seen when appraising it. Spec is as follows:

3 door tornado red
manual
registered June 05
28.2K miles
18 inch Monza 2s - totally unmarked - waxed with Poor Boys every month
Armrest
VW Ipod kit in glovebox
Cruise control
+ normal GTI stuff
Bodywork is immaculate - not a single scratch or ding - just a couple of tiny stone chips to front
Interior is unmarked with no signs of wear - can count the number of times I've had passengers in the car on one hand, and even then they had to remove their shoes!
Recent full service @ 26k miles
Recent Air con service and brake fluid change
Reg is HX05WDF

Car will be prepped and sold at Peter Coopers in Portsmouth - not sure how much they'll ask.

Hope above info is useful to someone.

BTW, loving the ED30. Have gone for DSG this time and it brings the GTI to a whole new level :)

I wish! It seems that the excellent condition will just make it easier for the dealer to sell - still someone will get a nice car.

Opening part-ex offer was 12k - I haggled to 13.5k plus free dealer fit ipod kit. Glass's guide (the Vauxhall one) puts the part-ex at 13k dead so I think I got a reasonable deal.

Will try and get some pics up today - assuming the sun can stay out long enough.

holy sh!te, your dealer will be on the make on your old car!!!, they will sell that for £16995, just you wait and see, your spec, age , mileage and good condition , your car will sell for it , i would keep tabs on it on vw's website. you should of shopped around, i sold my 05 GTi with as much spec as yours as a trade in for £17500 in November, but mine had dsg and xenons, leather amongst others theres is no way i would of taken any less. youve been had i hate to say!.Im gonna go look on vw's dealer website.Your car is not a 14-15k car on resale because of all the extra's it has. i think about £15995, 3 grand robbin f***kers.

I don't think I did too bad - plus I had done a lot of shopping around including non VW dealerships.

Looking on Autotrader at private sales most 05 GTIs of a similar spec/mileage are up at 14k to 14.5k. Even at 14.5k one would probably get haggled down by as much as 500 quid, so say 14k total. My part-ex at 13.5k doesn't look too bad - also I didn't want the hassle of selling privately. Bearing in mind I paid £19995 for it in 2005 that works out at a residual of approx 67% - above the 52% normally quoted for a 3 year old GTI.

You're probably right about the dealer putting it up at an extortionate price though - I'd expect nothing less :)

Anyway, as promised some pics of the new ED30....

My history with selling or part ex'ing will just show how much dealers wind up their resale price.
My passat sport that i found on Volkswagens uk used car search price for £19250 in november. was an 07 with 11000 miles on the clock. ive just sold the car back to the same dealer. The only things ive added to the car were a 2nd hand £300 mfd2 cd rom sat nav, multifuntion steering wheel and ipod prep. Put 2500 more miles on the clock to 13500 and they have got the car on the forecourt for £20495!!!!. Just goes to show i added some xtra's and Vw dealer ramp up the cost! :
