Mk II 8v wont start
« on: 11 April 2004, 11:19 »
I have an '89 8v and it has been temperamental when starting for a few weeks now, sometimes it starts 1st time, usually 2nd or 3rd time. It always turns over ok just never starts.
Today however it justs turns over and wont start at all, tried it maybe 15 times.
Where would you start with trying to fix it?
Any help gratefully received.

Just tried it again, started 1st time.
Whatever the problem is, it is intermittent

Could it be linked with the fact that it was cold and damp this morning? Could be a hairline crack in the distributer cap, problem with the leads etc., Check all your HT ignition out.

My local VW garage think it could be the ignition switch, when I bounce up and down the weight of my keys and keyrings moves the ignition switch to a position where it will start!
