Security Warning - Be Vigilant
« on: 19 March 2008, 20:13 »
Hey guys, just wanted to warn you all that it looks like the GTI's are being stolen to order again. Aware others have suffered incidents, but thought I should warn you all to be vigilant again.

A friend of mine works for a logistics company that has a large Volkswagen contract. A lot of her colleagues drive GTI's, R32's etc.

I was just telling her to warn her colleagues about a car jacking attempt I suffered on Tuesday when she told me that one guys just been held at knifepoint at his house for the keys to his S3 and another had his house broken into for his GTI keys.

Those two incidents occured in the Leicester area and mine was on the A46 near Stratford-Upon-Avon.

Might be worth beefing up your home security this weekend.

Thanks for the warning Mike

Is it worth having something like this as a sticky? If that's practical, that is ...

I'm afraid I think its something Golf GTI and R32 owners need to be genuinely aware of.

I bought mine knowing a colleague in Wilmslow had been broken into and threatened for his GTI's keys which they then took and another guy in Manchester had been beaten up in a car park in Manchester for his.

I had thought the initial criminal demand for the GTI had passed now though but clearly it hasn't.

I'm lucky I've got a 7 Stone dog that I think will be good enough security in the home, but I'll definitely be purchasing some form of
in-car personal security as I might not be lucky enough to out manouver the next guys that try to car-jack me.

About a month ago a friend of mine suffered the same fate. Three balaclaved thiefs brandishing knives smashed through the patio door at 10:00pm. The patio door is in the lounge, he and his family (two young children and wife) were watching TV at the time and as you can imagine they were completely shocked. They threatened him for the keys to his new GTI which he obviously could not handover quick enough, 2 hours later the car was involved in a high speed pursuit after they had used it in a robbery, this resulted in them totalling the car. Luckily they were caught but as usual in this country got away very lightly!!  His wife and children have still not fully recovered from the incident and I don't expect them to for sometime. The theft of his GTI has put him off having nice cars for life, its a shame that you can't seem to have anything nice anymore !! It just shows the legnth that people will go to steal cars!!!

I am quite concearned by this!! I am stubborn enough to try and hold on to my keys and get myself into strife!! Because of this I am going to get the APR remap and the anti theft immobiliser so that even if someone tries to start the car with the key, it won't fire up. It will turn over though.  Its a couple of hundered quid but worth it I think!

Well that was my first reaction when they blocked me with the van. I'd seen there was at least two of them and that they were both twice my size so I was thinking about what I had in the car to hit them with. Unfortunately as i've only had it about 3 weeks I've not had chance to accumulate much in it yet so there wasn't anything, not even the dog!!

But when I saw the reverse lights come on and them start reversing towards my front end I was more concerned about them not damaging the car. Thats when I moved towards driving down the inside of them, but they then drove diagonally forward from their central road position to block that exit route. Luckily that left me enough space in front to go round the outside of them and blast along the wrong side of the road clear the traffic and get away.

Whilst I can see the merits in the immobiliser you mention, my concern would be in a break in situation, the group would then come back into the house, this time really pi**ed off and batter you or threaten your family until you tell them how to start it. In reality if they've got in your house, aren't you just going to be wanting to get them away from you and your family as quickly as possible, thats where the car insurance comes in to play.

Yea, its far from a perfect solution. if they have your house and your family inside then I can see that it could cause more problems!
Sounds like you did well to get away there mate.

Damn! I was thinking of going back to Stratford at the weekend to see my folks.

Where abouts on the A46 did it happen? How did they try to get the car?

Real shame that there are people out there who think they can just take what the want and devestate a family in the process.

An unfortunate part of the world we live in. If they want my car they can have it. At the end of the day its an object and can be replaced.
