Another fault! Seriously pi**ed off!
« on: 19 March 2008, 17:53 »
Bought my GTI last October.  June05 model.  Since then I have been back at the dealer with 3 seperate problems.  The last one meaning I was with a courtesy car for a week and a half because they couldn't find the right part.

Today while driving home I have noticed a loud rattle coming from the engine bay when I am at low revs pulling away and a brief rattle when starting the car.

It wasn't meant to be like this.  I owned a Ford Focus for 5 years without a problem.  I am now seriously worried as my warranty is finished in June and then I am on my own.  To be honest I just wish I had never bought the thing.  What are my rights and what should I do.

Advice really appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your problems Keyser

Sounds like it could be something catching against the exhaust/engine, maybe a static part of the bodywork or bracket :undecided: TBH it could be any one of a thousand things, but I'd track back to the last job that the stealers did and take it from there as it is probably something that's worked loose.

Half the problems stem from dealers anyway! Get it looked at by a good VW specialist.. Im sure they would get it sorted!!

I'd be tempted to do that too.

Yes get it seen by a competent VW dealer. If you could, use another dealer rather than the one your using at the moment. Some dealers are like that who dont really care. But some (like mine) really do try to be as helpful as they can. I recently had a burning smell coming from my car and for the life of me couldnt tell where it was coming from. Took it into the dealers with no appointment made, straight away they took it in proped it up. Turned out i had a plastic bag stuck under my car on the exhaust which they showed me. Just like that, within 5min i was on my way again and even got a cup of tea.

Some do try to make an effort but others just add to the problem.

Thanks fellas.  I think you could be right Hurdy.  They replaced some parts to do with the coolant about 3 weeks ago.  It's probably something very simple, sounds like something has come loose.  (I hope :undecided) To be fair to the dealers they have been pretty decent so far.  I'm going to pay them a visit tomorrow and see what they say.

You really need to take this back to the dealer and let them fix it. It's their responsibility and they get paid by VW to sort out warranty work.

At the end of your warranty, you have two options, renew it, or don't bother and take a chance. Is it worth it
