To Remap or not remap. That is the question!

Hello there!
Newbie to the forum and newbie to the GTI
Anyway picked up my very well looked after GTI today, and I must say I'm impressed.Performance is awsome
The question is- Is it worth a remapping? As I said I'm mightely impressed now, would a remap make much difference?
If so, who would you recommend in the Derbyshire area?
Any thoughts or advice greatfully received.
I would add that the car is just out of warranty.

You have come to the right place.. if your even contemplating getting a remap, then you can have no doubt that the remap boys will happily justify you spending your cash!!

REVO, Superchips (Bluefin) and APR do switchable maps, but the APR one is the easiest to switch.

I would advise doing about 5,000 miles before you remap (10,000 even better) - You need to let your engine settle in and loosen up and discover any problems if there are any. Also, you'll appreciate the difference a remap makes when you have an experience you can compare it with.

Privately the good tuners would advise the same.

The remap is probably one of the best investments you'll ever make.

Couple of other things you should consider -

The OEM DV is prone to failure so you may need to consider on of the replacement options.
A remap may introduce what's know as 'fuel cut', this is caused becuase the OEM pump cannot flow enough fuel to satisfy the demand at around 5krpm - The solution is one of the after market fuel pumps such as KMD, Autotech or APR.

IMHO you would be best to stick with one of the well know tuners tuch as REVO, Superchips, GIAC or APR.  REVO is my preferance because it is customisable via the Select Plus switch so as you change your mods or even as the weather changes you can tune your car yourself.

....Hi Stu  - I think we have met, though very briefly.

Jim at JKM (who you also use) advised me that a Revo Stage1 wouldn't need an aftermarket fuel pump, but it was more appropriate for Stage2 or 3 - Unless, of course, you actually experienced fuel cut hiccups.

Yes you do still get fuel cut on Stage 1 as well.  Obviously it is dependant on the settings you are running, if you are maxing everything out or not and with the Fuel Pump you can run a bit more fuel.

Even if you aren't getting fuel cut the Fuel Pump really does make a nice difference.

We ran my currently very lightly modded car recently with the pump, the results are pretty good for Stage 1 with the OEM filter etc -

hello (1st proper post)

i've had my car just over 3 weeks, i've allready had it remapped
it was allways in my budget and came from a remapped MK4 so knew what to expect
i ended up going for a ChippedUK map, had considered GIAC and CustomCode and had a Starperformance and a ChippedUk map in my MK4
on the whole i'm very impressed, should be at least 245BHP
felt the fuel cut symptom for the 1st time last night, doing about 120 in 5th (private runway of cource)
have an uprated DV to go on when the weather gets a bit better

had a switchable map in my MK4 and can honestly say i switched back about 3 times in 3.5 years and that was only to remind my self what the standard car felt like. Also my VW warranty ends in May so rude not to get it mapped
