Hello All

My names Baskey and I drive a clio 172.

Im currently on the look out for a mk3 gti for my girlfriend who loves them, specilay in black. Although its for my misses i will be driving it 'properly' on the weekends.

Iv seen a couple of nice 8v's and 16v's although for what she wants il probely go with the 8v

Really impressed with the site (including the for sale sections), is there any buyers guides for the mk3 ?? 

Anyhow thats about all, im looking to get the car next month and im sure il be harrasing you all with tech questions etc

Welcome mate!

If you want to "drive" it the you will be disappointed with an 8v!
Get a 16v.

Yes there is a buyers guide - if you care to look in the Mk3 Section its either in the Stickies bit or up in the Maintenance section.

spot on mate, just what i was looking for. My boss is going out soon so i can have a good read  :grin:

Iv never brought or owned a german car before. Are they fairly easy to work on. Im no mechanic but always try to do what i can on my own car (just replaced the rear suspension, hubs,bearings ,disks etc on my clio)

Still cant make my mind up which model to go for. 16v def looks more fun, plus my girlfriend is 23 with 5 years ncb so insurance isnt really an issue, but iv herd the 8v are more reliable, and the extra mpg will suit as she is going to use it to comute to work hhmmmmm

Depends how she drives! But basically if she wants a bit of performance then you have to drive the 8v hard so brings down the mpg.
There is only about 3/4 mpg between the 2 anyway.

Yes generally they are easy cars to work on.
