Leaving the car un-driven

a question i have always asked myself but dont know the answer, i usually end up going with yes.

when you go on holiday for instance and leave you car at home for two weeks (or so)  is it a good idea to ask someone to drive it. i.e familiy member, instead of leaving it sat there....?

Shouldn't hurt it one bit.

Just pump a few extra psi into the tyres. When you come back and start it up, let it sit at idle for a few minutes, check the tyre pressures. Sorted.

maybe during the winter months its worse than summer..?

I used to have a mk IV 1.6 SE (99T plate), when I was working away from home it would be sat there from Monday morning until Friday eve.

Invariably the battery would run flat in that time.

Spoke to a couple of dealers about it and they just said 'It's designed to be driven'

i went away for 5 months when i had my impreza, just disconected my battery, put it back on and brum brum we were of

I worked month on month off for 5 years and drove an S3 and BMW in that time and they would both have a flat battery when I came home. 

This was over both winter and summer (in Aberdeen so it got very cold during winter).

Best garaged if you can. Leaving it outside in the damp UK weather causes the brake discs to rust up. Couple of weeks should be no problem. Anything over 4 weeks you should consider laying it up.

hum, mixed opinion then. im still leaving towards askin my farther to take it out. the disks is a good reason, didnt think of them!

Chock the tyres and then release the handbrake.
