came with twin headlights, black badge on the front and chrome on the back, think the came with red pin stripe round the grille also (sure some one will correct me if im wrong ), this is a pic of my totally standard gti before i started to modify it  ..

It looks like an early G reg model in which case it would have come with small bumpers (big bumpers came in halfway through G-reg). This is also noticable because your big bumpers are black/unpainted and big bumpers were always body coloured.

my project has an original grill for early 89 (F plate)

GTI badge has gone walkies tho 

also small bumper GTI's have a red "go faster" stripe running right above the plastic door strips.

plus it should have a black vinyl stripe running in the recessed section running down the length of the car (above the door strips)... mine has started to peel off...!

Between y'all and Taxiboy I think I know what's what now!

Crevice - your project looks to be same colour as mine - or at least very similar, still cant get my head round the thin red trims on a car that colour tho!

Anyhow, looks like I've got a fair bit to do on her, mostly 'cosmetic' stuff and finding the right bits n pieces -  but I'll get there with help from my man when I get back to UK (!)
