Latest Road Saftey Figures
« on: 09 April 2004, 15:45 »
Well, a trusted member of our Government announced yesterday that there is a 17% reduction in road fatalities and serious injuries.

So there we have it, cameras are working. Apparently.

Until the papers got hold of the report, and found the paragraph that said something along the lines of "road fatalities have increased for the first time since 1998. In fact fatalities have increased 5%".

So what is the score - safer or more dangerous.

As per normal its spin.

The devil is in the detail. Roads are 17% safer - wrong.

They have included the figures of death and serious injuries into a single statistic, thus distorting the fatalities figure.

What a fantastic government we have.

Well in my experence the new cameras are a bad news. Since getting caught speeding last monday ive been drying like a nun. But ive found this has a worse effect on my driving.

Since ive been doing this ive been sitting behind the wheel paranoid about getting pulled over, Even with the radar detector i dont feel i can relax, Also having to watch the speedo to make sure im on the limit takes my eyes off the road. In the 5 days ive been doing this ive almost hit 2 curbs and had a few other incodents due to my lack of attention on the road its self, For this reasion ive decided. Im driving the way i was before, Id rather be safe and loose my licence than keep my licence and loose my car in a crash instead

if they want to slow people down maybe they should stop making all the new cars with more power. even the lowest models have 90bhp these days. we all know what VW's PD engines are like. more and more torque every update.
