As above really, Dean from Awesome rang on tuesday to see if they could borrow my car for the afternoon so the boffins from APR, who are over from the states for a few weeks, could do some development work on a new uprated fuel pump they have.
The afternoon turned into 3 days, as they had a few issues.
First they ran the car with the original generic APR stage 1 map I had installed and it made 277bhp at the wheels ,about 300bhp at the flywheel which is pretty good.
Then they did some work on that map smoothing it out a bit in the midrange and finding another 11bhp at the top end, 288bhp at the wheels, 310ish bhp at the flywheel, which I'm really impressed with as the car has nothing but the Carbonio intake. This will become APR's stage 1 generic map for the ED30 when its been sent back to the states for approval.
Then they did some work with the fuel pump, fitting their uprated item and adjusting the map to suit, it made some really impressive figures, up to 305bhp at the wheels, 325ish bhp at the flywheel, not bad with a standard exhaust. But for some reason there were issues at the top-end of the rev range 6500rpm+ the ECU would just pull everything back, the APR lads couldn't find the reason for this working for nearly 20hrs trying to sort it out with no success. So its back to the drawing board but they are confident they'll sort it. Its strange because they have had no problems with any other Tfsi engine getting really good results.
To be honest I'll be more than happy with the new stage 1 map and its 310bhp, but the fuel pump might be to tempting when its sorted, especially since Jim's gonna do me a bit of a deal

I had a good chat with the APR lads and they were really open and knowledgeable, taking lots of time to explain what they had done and how things work, their software guy, Joel, was really helpful explaining all the safety parameters they work within and I left feeling confident in the APR products.
Whilst Awesome had my car they loaned me their Demo car, which had just had its map adjusted, the DSG, lambo doored Mk5 Gti. This really is a bit of kit, K04 turbo upgrade, APR TBE, KW variant3 suspension, Tarox 12 pots, Neuspeed anti-roll bars.
It was nice to compare a remapped DSG car and my manual Ed30 as they were making similar power, and to be honest its down to personal taste, intially I thought the DSG car was much faster, but I think the main reason for this is when you put your foot down on the motorway it geared down 2 gears into 4th and right into the sweet spot of the rev-range, which is something you would never do in a manual car. Where it did come into its own was in traffic making it far less hassle. So like I said I thinks its each to their own and I prefer my manual. The APR exhaust is a bit loud for my liking, so I think I'll go the Milltek route.
Although not really my cup of tea, the Lambo doors got alot of attention, even drawing a crowd taking pictures on their phones outside the ice rink, although serving no purpose I can see why Awesome have fitted them to attract attention at shows etc..
The car handled really well, and I did try it out

, it seemed to turn in quicker than mine but was a little more twitchy and torque steered more than mine, but that could be down to different make of tyres, I use Toyos, they have Michelins.
Over all I enjoyed my few days with the demo car I was glad to get my car back yesterday and enjoyed my drive home

Thanx for reading my ramble!
