1st Mod ordered
« on: 14 March 2008, 11:57 »
I'm at the top of the slope looking down, just about to put one foot over the edge.......

Just ordered a pipercross panel filter from awesome, will be my first mod to my GTI, couldn't justify the cost of the carbonio even though it looks like black gold under the bonnet, most of the gain will be from the improved panel filter in a carbonio system anyway imo.

So next on the list is to get the rear windows tinted (doing this with the money not spent on the carbonio)

Then it will be saving up for a bluefin, not going the route of a milltek, if the exhaust goes whilst the car is in my possesion then of course it makes sense to change to one but other than that keeping it pretty stock.

to be honist, i think the carbonio DOES offect the gain if anything. if you look at the current intake it doesnt "ram" air into the engine, it passes though a tube into the engine bay which the intake takes from. sucking in cold and hot air at the same time! slower you go, more hot air gets sucked in, (in theory) i drew a poopy image :)

the carbonio just goes to the outside grill. not the engine bay.

im sure it deos affect it to some extent, but im also sure that the largest gain comes from the actual filter,

all the cold air that gets sucked or rammed into the filter by the carbonio will only stay cold until it hits the turbo, then its going to heat up dramatically anyway.

tru but its already gone though the car by the time it hits the turbo, then yes its the same as previous. still.. i think the two make a difference, and the filter you get with the carbonio is or very close to piperx filter :)

The Carbonio is far more efficient than the standard ram intake - It's much deeper with a greater volume and has no baffles etc inside and ALL the air goes directly to the filter. The greater volume builds more air pressure too, I'm given to understand.

The Carbonio ships with a Pipercross panel filter. I now have an ITG Competition filter.

looks good, not disputing that it it does anything.

just giving my reasoning for not going the route of the carbonio. spending the difference on rear window tints.
