I didn't really like the red stitching, but it wouldn't put me off an ED30. I really didn't like the cheap looking ED30 logo on the aluminium dash inserts though. However, if I were spending that kinda doh on a car, I'd be tempted to spend a little more on an R32.

I agree about the badge but not the R32

R32 is king!! lets not drag it into a convo about stitching...

i think that theres to much red going on what with the steering wheel, gear-knob and handbrake plus red in the pattern and then to top it off red stitching aswell!! a little to much for me.

....And certainly too much red going on when you also have a red car!

Not really going to add anything here that no-one else hasn't already said, but IMHO (after having an Ed30 for 3 days now)

1. Think the external styling v much depends on the colour chosen. For me, silver, red, or white are just too much. Steel grey looks spot on. Saw a black one the other day and that was quite nice, too.   Can't remember what other colours you can get the Ed30 in but I think it's a shame there's no dark blue option.

2. Pescaras are fantastic

3. The 'Edition 30' logos just add weight to me.

4. Red stitching. Looks far better in the flesh than in print. Love the 50/50 seats as well.

One thing. The DSG gearlever (the lever itself, not moving it around) feels a tad flimsy to me. Was expecting something weightier ...

Hi Martin,

I have to agree with your comments on the Pescaras... cool dark grey colour with deep paint, great curves & not to bad to clean!

White however is the new white

Take care... Hotrod

When the Mk 5 GTI was launched in 2004 (or was it 2005?) I hated the tartan seats.  However, over time they have grown on me and I love them now.  I love all things retro and to me it just adds a bit of nostalgia to a modern version of a classic car.

The red stitching I can either give or take.  I don't dislike it but I'm not in love with it either.  However, the red in the seats brings out the red stitching and they complement each other well without being too in yer face.  I remember when the Mk 4 Anniversary came out and the red stitching in that was horrendous and a bit chavvy IMO, but it seems to be more subtle in the Mk 5.

The Edition 30 badges let the car down IMO.  They look too much like a Ford TDCi badge (have a look next time you're behind a Focus/Mondeo!) and cheapen the car.  I would have much preferred to have a numbered plaque instead of the Edition 30 badges but we all know why we didn't get them now don't we

Spot on about it looking like the TDCi badge - I had a Focus TDCi hire car recently, badging is very similar.

I'm being dense here - I don't know why we don't get a numbered plaque - could I please be enlightened??   :nerd:

Cost at a guess. Seems mad when my car cost £24k that they want to cut pence off the build price.

I imagine that the lack of a numbered plaque is because VW never intended the ED30 to be a true limited edition model, but rather a 30th anniversary celebration of the first GTi.

I like the red stitching

The only real thing I didn't like on the MKIV anni was the red side stripes down the seatbelts and I'm glad they didn't repeat it for the MKV.
