I think this sums up my feelings for a Megane 225 :

Don't get me wrong the mk5 gti is still at the top of my wish list BUT i did look at an edition 30 the other day which was an 07 plate 8000 miles with silver mettalic & the up grade headlights & that was £19995.With those extras it must of been close to 24-25 k new ? so that has lost the best part of 5 grand in a short space of time ?.

At the end of the day, it's your money.

I hate to admit that I did consider buying one about a year ago and took a test drive in the R26 230 F1 Megane.
I thought it was just awful, gear stick two foot high, seat too high and the it just had no uummpphhh.

A year later, this has manifested into my current hatred for anything Renault. I sometimes sit here with my head
in my hands thinking how close I was to wasting a serious amount of cash on a seriously crap car.

I would be suicidal now if I had actually bought one
Thank the lord I didn't.

But hey, don't let me put you off.

Answer to that question is ...........car was an parallel import., theyre residuals value suffer slightly more. full uk high spec car would not loose that ammount.if been hunting for ed 30's and all the cheap ones are imports, with no add ons, ie dsg etc

Gene, if your thinking of buying a megane i would leave the 225 sport, not the best handling and go for the megane 230 r26 a rapid B-road and track car not even a gti would stick with it,the r26 has the limited-slip diff and is a bit hardcore for some so as an all round package most people would buy the gti.

and if you wanna loose your teeth fillings and have a shot spine by time your in your 40's, then get the r26

For me the test is would you be comfortable telling someone what car you drive without going into the details eg.

When asked I say Golf GTI. Everyone knows what a Golf GTi is and that its a quality product. No further comment is required.

Would you be happy to tell a colleague at work or a girl in a bar you've got a Renault Megane?

I think you'd find you had to add the words 225 Sport on to the end and then find yourself having to explain its not a normal megane but a 225bhp special version. Ultimately that makes you look a bit of a tit and your justifying to yourself why you've spent a stack load of cash on a naff car just because its been dragged through a Halfords backwards.

Then again if you apply the same logic:-

"I drive An edition 30 Golf......................" :lipsrsealed:
