Hi guys,
I'm a newbie to this forum so firstly, hello!

Ok, I have a few problems with my GTi (It's an N reg Mk3 2.0 8v).
When driving it seems to be wheezy and reluctant to pick up. Basically, in order to accelerate hard you have to come back of the throttle slightly to a point where it picks up. If you don;t it is very lumpy and rough, almost wheezing. However, even when backing off it still seems wheezy, hesitant and generally a bit lumpy. In addittion, the normal throttle progression isn't as smooth as it should be and it's slightly jolty - pinking a bit maybe?? I think this may be an additional problem in its self. It also occasionally stalls when cold.
It ticks over nicely and sounds sweet. No oil or fluid leaks. Idle is just under 900rpm, but it slightly vibrates adversely (It's not always a smooth idle).
I have cleaned out the crank case breathers which were clogged with mayo because the car only usually does short journeys. However I have done about 500 miles in it this week since and its just as bad.
It's so annoying because as you know, these cars should be great fun and smooth to drive! Any ideas please??!!!!! I'm stuck.
Thanks,
PearlSilver.
