Woah, before you shell out a ton on tax see if the mot place will collect it. My local place did as i was insured on a different car to the one i needed an mot on

You're allowed to use it on the road to take it to a pre aranged appointment at a testing station. Just go straight there and you'll be fine. Make sure you have insurance though.

so il need to insure that car aswell as my mk3?

or could i just get my old man to take it there for me?

You can drive to an MOT station without an mot (unless thats just a myth?), but you still need tax. If you are insured on it then i'd risk the trip to the test station as long as it isn't a million miles away. Not sure what the legalities are regarding driving it home if it fails though
