I think you need to drive the mk2 before making any silly decisions!

I couldn't agree more! I actually sold my MK3 to fund the purchase and restoration of a MK2!!

With no tax or MOT it's worth scrap money, as that's exactly what it is.

Unless you are on really good terms with the scrap man that means free to the collector.

A new screen's going to be £70 before you get on to all the other little things that might well need doing for an MOT.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

If funds are tight how have you gone from a mk2 driver to a mk3 gti and still appear to have the driver at home?

What actually needs doing on the mk2? I see you were interested in a set of 17"s for it. Rather than buy them why not put the money into getting the mk2 sorted with an MOT? I know it sounds like i'm telling you what to do and i don't mean it like that as it's your car your choice etc etc, but its surprising how little you can spend when you just buy the essentials to get it working rather than throwing out cash on big wheels and crystal headlamps and such like

I got a mint set of mk2 green tint glass for 99p inc the top tint windscreen. Just an example of what i mean by things can be done for very little money if you want to

Im putting the 1.6 driver up for sale (just need a bonnet cable) most of the things on the GTi i have got for a good price and others parts i had lying round from the driver...as for what needs doing for the mot not sure really, put a brand new alternator on it, new sparks, leads, dizzy, oil change etc and it runs fine, starts first time and all that jazz  Just figured that it would be better off someone driving it then having it sitting on the drive?

Total cost of getting my non runner on the road was around £400 and that includes

BBS ra's £65
Brand new tyres £133
Complete and mint rainbow interior including dash £34
G60 leather steering wheel £16
Head skimmed and so on.

The cost of parts for a mk2 is stupidly cheap and they are really easy to work. I turned my non runner into a minter in under 2 weeks!!

Have a look around for some discount MOT tests like the 25 quid ones and just put it in. That way you could score 12months ticket if you're really lucky, or at the very least you'll know what is needed to pass, which might make it easier to sell as is.

Give it a once over checking the brakes, exhaust, lights and any signs of corrosion underneath and if that is all good you might aswell give it a go.
