Instead of calculating CO2 on exhaust emissions, they should take a longer term real-world view and calculate according to Dust-to-Dust which accounts for the carbon used from the initial creation in the factory plus a 100,000 mile yardstick plus the final disposal back to dust.

Guess where the fecking Toyota Pious comes in the list?..........In the 80's, 86th if I remember correctly.

I wouldnt sell my R even if it was double.  £400 a year is a lot but i try and not think about it.

I calculated that the R32 would be an extra £20-30 a week extra on fuel than my GTI was, but its only turned out £10 pw more, so if fact with the tax going up i still am no worse off than i budgeted..

While on the hobby horse - ever noted that they never state how much extra money they are needing to spend on the never ending mess they call the war! If its for the environment then lets see some transparency and see the extra getting spent on enviromental issues - not fudge it over and hope nobody notices where the money is really going. This 'government' must think were feckin stupid!
Personaly speaking i don't mind gas guzzlers getting taxed (so long as it DOES go on the enviroment) as in the long run we'll get rid of all these lardy cars and get some real effecient light weight performance machines - lets face it - the R32 is far too lardy!!!!

The future.......... A golf the size/weight of the MK1 or 2 while as safe/refined as the MkV - now there's progress!

I'll dismount now!

While i agree with almost all of what you said.. the R32 is hardly lardy?? only a few kg more than other golfs.

Remember there is no replacement for displacement

The R32 is 2 big, fat men heavier at over 1500kg. Still not lardy when compared against some models though.

i think its a small weight gain if you look at what you get.. a whole 3.2 engine and a 4wd system, and bigger brakes!!
