One thing I am curious about in all this is how do the ANPR cameras recognise Eastern European plates?  They are in a different font after all.

There are heaps of Polish etc. cars in Edinburgh so how do they get away with not being pulled?

My sentiments exactly

Simple,  its too much grief and they all make out they can't speak English, much easier to nick a law abiding Brit to keep up their quotas

Yeah, it's such a 'crime' to have set of metal plates with legible numbers and letters.

The simple issue is that our finest boys in blue don't seem to have the intelligence/interest or effort to stop all those t*ssers who speed down side roads at 60+, tailgate, lane swap, or drive around  on foreign plates year after year, often with dodgy tyres, brakes , no insurance and tanked up on their cheap Polish spirit, when the fully taxed/insured Brit is an easy nick cos his number plate clearly identifies him.

Feeling sore........you bet I am, its a war out there and we are being persecuted for being totally paid up and legal except for an iffy number plate,   next time some piece of scum drives into your pride and fully insured joy, see how interested plod is to sort it out    but have a number or letter a few mill out and its £30, just tax collectors no more no less.

By the way Joe, think they look well sorted mate.

EXACTLY!!! Nail and head comes to mind!!

....I can't see the point of German plates either - Except perhaps for shows, but even then, what's the point? - Why not go the whole way and make your car lefthand drive!

Hurdy, for once I don't agree with you on something - Taking it out on traffic police with smart-arse remarks isn't very clever and in fact could quite rightly, in my opinion, get the book thrown at you one day. Besides which, word about a driver's bad attitude will quickly get around the local boys in blue - It works the other way too!

I agree with you RR. It isn't a good thing. I just don't react well with them. What makes it worse is two of my best mates are/were traffic cops and they tell me so many stories about how they can deliberately wind people up if they come across someone acting arrogant or cocky that it just makes it worse if I get pulled. I must admit that it is a while since I've been stopped and the last time was down in Torquay by a lovely WPC. It was totally different when she pulled me over - it was like being caught doing something bad by a dominant woman in uniform  So much so I half felt like belting it off the line again so I could get another reprimand :lipsrsealed:

Well from Joe getting a set of German metal 'showplates', we have progressed to a general rant and rave about the effectiveness of motoring law enforcement, we seem to have some fairly polarised views.

Seems fairly straight set in 2 camps........those of us who like to have a little bit of indivduality in our lives and possessions,
and those of us who believe we should play it straight down the line and obey every rule the thought police come up with.

Now I see a perfect irony here........what kicked all this off was Joe and his rather neat German plates from the Fatherland,
which as we all know, in the words of Al Murray ........... to quote ' where would we be, if we had too many rules?'

Funny that we try to look like German motors and break the rules in doing so

Think even our German cousins would find some humour in that one

Joe

Probably find most of the rozzers are fast tracked Easterns, so the number plates look quite normal to them   :smug:
