16V runnin rough since rebuild...
« on: 11 March 2008, 11:52 »

I just rebuilt my mates 16V engine, top & bottom, and started it up on saturday. It started first time but keeps stalling. If i rev it, it is fine but running rough. i've checked the timing and everything else seems okay.

Does anyone now what could be causing the problem?

I replaced all the gaskets on the inlet however is it possible that one is damaged hence the problem?
I assumed if it was the gasket then it will idle high but instead it just splutters and stalls.

Gonna double check everything when i get home. Just wanna get it running smooth.

I would appreciate your help.  :embarassed:

Vacum pipes all OK?

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

could be a dodgy electrical connection to your air flow meter.

The vacuum pipes are okay, and the airflow meter wasn't disconnected.
I will check the wires again tonight.

Could it be fuel problem?

Is it timed and tuned up ok? Silly question but important.

If its not vac hose related...

Have you checked the CO2/Idle settings ?

Are you sure you're not a tooth out on the cam belt ?

He's already said that he's checked timing.

Have you disturbed the distributor timing during the re-build?
I changed mine on my 16v in accordance with the Haynes manual and i found out it has to be spot on to get a smooth idle.

Could be an air leak in one of the manifold gaskets.

Start the car and spray some WD40 or carb cleaner over the manifold joins. If the rpm rises you know there is an air leak and you need to fit new gaskets.
coming to some armco near you soon.....
