Hotrod’s car... not ready!!
« on: 10 March 2008, 11:18 »
Hi Guys,

Just a quick post. A bit disappointed, as I was supposed to be collecting my new ED30 this morning, however small fault(s) has put it on hold.

A tyre pressure warning light was showing on the dash so they popped it into the workshop to adjust, expecting a small drop in pressure in one of the tyres. Pumped up/checked tyres, light still on! However the ABS light is also now showing, so they’re on the phone to VW tech centre to investigate. It seems the top right button on the multi-function steering wheel isn’t working... which I guess accesses the Highline computer.

VWUK reckon it could be one of five potential faults. Steering wheel faulty, sensors iffy under engine block and three others the salesman couldn’t remember.

Real shame, took 2-days off work to enjoy the experience, now not sure what’s happening.

Salesman really nice, genuine guy and really gutted, he’d moved the showroom around to accomodate my car, so I could inspect it carefully in this truly dreadful weather.

I know some of you have had issues with the tyre monitors... what about the other issues... probably linked I guess.

Sigh... ah well... just killing some time... waiting for update from dealer

Any thoughts?
Hotrod

....I'm really sorry to hear that, Hotrod, but I'm really glad to hear that the dealer I recommended appears to be looking after you.

I've got no thoughts to contribute about the actual fault - I haven't heard of this one before. But I'm confident they'll get it sorted out asap for you.

Cheers Robin,

Elliott was gutted! They’re waiting for feedback from VWUK at the mo. Real shame... me & the wife took time off work, so now killing time... need to sort out insurance again now, as my 4-Mo was supposed be gone by 10am.

Anyway... being handled professionally... I’d expect nothing less!!

cheers... Hotrod

I feel your pain

The tyre monitor is utter garbage on the mk5, mine comes on all the time, in fact its on at the moment, probably because the tyre pressure has dropped by 0.0001psi. Its in my mates garage on Thursday having the coilovers changed, I might get him to deactivate it completely.

The other things sound like niggly faults, although probably best the dealer sorts them now rather than numerous visits back to the workshop.

Quick update,

New ECU (or whatever it’s called) ordered, to be here very first thing Tuesday. Dealership feeling very positive about this. Have been told that the MFSW button is working, it’s just that the message isn’t being sent... so the VAG diagnostics say.

Hopefully 11am Tuesday I’ll take delivery? Fingers crossed!... Hotrod

....ECU = Electronic Control Unit - The car's brain! Messages/instructions are sent as programmed and smartly in reaction to events as they occur. All clever stuff, innit!

Is your GTI also an Ed30, Stevie? - If so, it could be a faulty batch of ECU's.
