sell the 1.8t for a v5?
« on: 08 March 2008, 17:47 »
Hi everyone, fairly new to the forum and to vw's

I bought my mk4 1.8t a little while ago and have been very happy with it. However i have stumbled accross a very nice v5 and the guy is interested in doing a deal. The cars are...

Mine...2000/x plate, 1.8t 20v silver, 3-door, standard with blue/black recaro cloth, 51k fsh. Nice clean original car.

His...2001/x plate 2.3 v5 black, 3-door, heated black recaro's, centre armrest, f/f satnav, xenons, winter pack, 66k fsh. Sounds like a nice car, with original alloys and not been messed around with untastefully.

What do you guys think? We could do a deal inside £1k. Its a long shot obviously that we do this but possible. I know that my car is more tuneable etc but i wasnt going down that road. I hear the 170bhp is much smoother and after 3 years in bmw's, i think i may appreciate this car a little more!

Thanks for your advice!

The V5 is very thirsty, I would keep the 1.8T and get it remapped. Why dont you take it for a test drive and make your mind up from there? I know someone else on here has just got a V5.....

I would'nt bother. 1.8T probably just as quick and uses less petrol.  If you have loads of spare cash for fuel, why not look out for a 2.8 4motion instead?....they sound

1.8T for a V6 maybe but IMO the V5 is a pointless engine, more power than the 1.8T and TDI's but slower because it doesn't have enough extra power for the weight.

its a nice car to cruise in, but the GT TDI 130 and 150 will cruise so much better and return more than 25 mpg

keep the 1.8T or get a V6 / TDI 150 if you want the toys

I agree V5 is thirsty, (mine is the early greedy 150 bhp model) apperntly you do get an extra 2mpg from the l8r 170bhp models.
but then i could walk to work when its not raining
