hi everyone im new to this site, having just bought a really good mk3 golf. For a 13 yr old car she a bute...

apart from the idling problem i have, i may have no other option to take it to vw to check fault codes.

I have had oil fuel and spark plugs changed, and the throttle body was given a good clean, but am still getting a lumpy idle....

the needle does not fluctuate at all, but you can feel the engine sputtering and feel it through the seat, is their anything common that this could be,  the car is not over fueling, as we found a pipe on the fuel rail which needed replacing. No fuel leaks anywhere and have run some redex through her.

I have run out of ideas as to what it could be.....

Mine's doing the same at the moment. I'd love to know what it is too. Out of interest, does the exhaust sound spluttery too? Mine does so it's making me worry a bit (can't afford to spend money on it!).

Yes mine is exactly the same - it was also holding back at high revs - I changed the fuel filter yesterday and that fixed the holding back problem  - I just checked the dizzy cap and rotor arm and they aint in the best of shape - so they will changed in an hour - I hope this sorts out the lumpy tick over!

mine did this a while back, try either cleaning or changing your lambda sensor. i did this and it stopped the lumpy idle. think it cost about 50 from gsf.

I would check all the breather pipes.... even the smallest leak on these and its lumpy idle playtime! my old one had the smallest leak and fitting a new pipe stopped the lumpy and made the car smoother

noticed today mine has wrong HT leads fitted......i put manifold cover on and the leads wouldn't reach to fit into the guide grooves, wayyyy to short.....flippin bodge artist who had car before me. also when changing the rad this morning none of the 5 bolts that are supposed to hold bottom of bumper were there.....TUT! then when i put it back on and refiited indicators drivers side wouldnt work, looks like he's cut connecter off and bodged a space connector and spliced it.......wot a retard!

this is what i think i may be, its not the maff sensor disconnected it and it was still lumpy......either that or my timing is out? Im gonna take it down the garage and have fault codes checked.  fingers crossed.....
