Unstable

Has anyone else noticed that ED30's are quite unstable when braking hard at high speed  :undecided: I have noticed it a few times, the car can really snake over the road quite a lot, I have lost a little confidence with it when really gunning it, my last car was much more stable and that was a MKV TDI, I dont quite understand this? Would adding coilovers and arb's solve the problem? The brakes are gonna have to go aswell, I mean they are just ok but after a remap they wont stand up to the job. Would the standard R32 brakes be better as I have a full set in the garage??

Dont have an ED30 but my GTI never does that. It stops in a straight line even when i slam on the brakes from 60mph+

I've hauled my car down from some pretty hairy speeds and its straight and solid all the time. This may seem condescending (its not meant to be) so feel free to virtually slap me, but are you braking in a straight line. If you brake hard and move the steering wheel or brake in a turn, even a slight one, you will shift the weight of the car around the axles which will give you the snakey feeling.

Advanced driving courses  teach you how to manipulate weight transfer to your advantage and a feel for the movement of the car.

Of course it could just be a sh!t road

My ED30 doesn't have any issues like this. Retardation is straight and true.

I've got a standard GTi and that's one of the first things I noticed after getting it. I wouldn't say it snakes all over the place but it does sometime squirm a fair bit when braking hard from high speed. It is better after fitting pilot sport ps2's on it. The BMW I had before was much more sure footed and felt rock solid. I guess it may have something to do with the weight & distribution, slightly stiffer suspension and having 255 tyres on the back.

Maybe I exaggerated a little with the snaking all over the road but it is not quite as stable as my previous cars. i meant the car moves around when braking through corners

The R32 brakes are immense, but it does sound like there may be some other problem, which the huge R' discs may just accentuate.

braking round corners = your ESP trying to stop your car oversteering perhaps?

when braking through corners

This may be the route of your problem. You should brake before the corner, consistant power through and then accelerate out of it. Braking mid corner is very good at upsetting the balance of any car.
