All things bright and beautiful....
« on: 06 March 2008, 15:45 »
Or rather not! Just want to clarify a few points about the lights on my Ed30....

1). Nearly every journey I do in the dark at least one other person flashes me making me think that my xenons are too bright.  I know they are meant to be "self-levelling" but can they be adjusted? I didn't get flashed much in my old Mk 4 R32 which also had xenons.  It's wonderful for me being able to turn night into day but if I'm honest the beam does seem a bit wide and when following someone I do seem to be shining into their car at times.

2).  Why don't my puddle lights work in the doors? Are they actually lights or just reflectors? I could go out and look closely but I can't be arsed   In my Mk 4 again I had puddle lights but they don't seem to be working on the Ed30.

3). Has anyone got a lights-on buzzer? On the odd occasion I forget to turn my lights off I expect to hear a warning buzzer but don't seem to have one.  However, the headlights do go off when I take the key out of the ignition so I've no danger of a flat battery but was just wondering if there was a warning buzzer or not? I've looked through the Highline computer but can't find an option to turn it on in there.

I do a lot of driving in the dark so these things are all very important to me

the things in the doors are just reflectors, bit of a shame really as this was one of the little details on my old mk4 i used to like.

cant answer about the xenons as mine doesnt have them, and i dont have an issue with leaving lights on as i leave mine in auto.

I have xenons on mine and I have had nobody flash me as yet so I think yours maybe a tad high which is blinding people. I think these can be adjusted quite easily with an allan key, the bolt is on the top of the lights housing I think, which will either make them higher or lower. Make sure when you are doing this you do it in the dark so you can actually see which way they are going  Just bring them down a little and I think you will be fine from then on.

I have noticed too there is no buzzer if you leave your lights on when you get out of the car and I dont think you are able to turn one on. The lights as you say automatically turn themselves off when the doors are shut after the engine is switched off, so the battery will not go flat

If you put the lights to all the way on, instead of the dusk sensor, do u get a buzzer then.

Nope, I don't get it whatever the lights are switched onto.  I don't use the AUTO setting anyway because it annoys me.

I think I'll take it back and let the dealer look at it.  That way they can look at the beam pattern properly rather than me just guessing where it's meant to be.  I also need a headlight washer looking at as it doesn't sit flush with the bumper so will ask them to look at that at the same time.  I just want to get an idea from others about the headlight alignment before I book it in though to see if it's just me with the problem or a common trait on them all.

Tis a bit of a shame really but it's obviously a way of saving them money I guess!

Golfgirl,

I have puddle lights coming on when I get out of the car. They are fitted into underside of the wing mirrors. Do yours have this function?

On this question, we have 'luxury pack 1' (Stupid name), and it includes the 'area lighting', which basically is a light under the wing mirrors that illuminates the road by the doors. It's rather obvious, especially on white cars as it lights up the side of the car too, so it sounds like yours isn't working or you didn't get the option!

On the topic of xenons, ours seem high to me but only ever had one person flash. The worst is if you are in the outside lane of the motorway, because people in the inside lane get dazzled by the 'side illumination' bit - on a single carriageway, this lights up the side of the road and is fine, but on a very wide road, other cars get it a bit. I think you can adjust the height of the xenons too - but you'll have to do a search for that :-)

I have puddle lights too and mine beeps if I leave the lights on (apart from Auto mode obviously).

I would have it back to the dealers to get looked at.
